Where to upload my website ?

You could try to register the domain yourself with other domain name providers but usually, the host has a free domain registration in the plan (some for a year, some for life). Others even have 2 or 3 free domains depending on the plan so I would not bother to do it with other providers and then go through the transferring of domains and all that.

The best you could do, go for the free domain offered by the host and then shop around for the second one (if you need more than one). If you are planning to have 2 or 3 websites up from start, go for the ones with more free domains.

So, how do you do it?

First of all, you need to choose a name. You can get some help on http://www.whois.ws/domain_suggestions.php

You can try to enter keywords of the website you are about to create and the tool will give you suggestions of domains available. Also, you can use the search tool provided by your host to search for specific domain names. This is a hard process. Make sure you set some time for this because you may be surprised how many domains are taken. When I searched the domain name for where2upload.com, I spent hours going through domains that I thought to be perfect for this little website and guess what. Someone else thought about that before me. :) So, patience, and good luck.

Once you find an available domain, my suggestion, Google it. Put a search for it on Google. See how many similar domain names are popular, see if Google suggests a different site than yours. See if your domain name was not used before and maybe has a bad reputation. It may happen.

Domain Name Extension (.com, .net etc)

There are multiple extensions available for purchase. See below what they stand for. Personally I recommend getting the .com version. If you really have a brand that you want to protect I would go for the .net as well. You can always buy more extensions (if no one else bought it before you)
